Episode 112 – Specific Islands

Nan Madol (500 x 500).jpg

August Around the World continues, this time in the bigger of the oceans! You know the one.

Jake begins with cool rocks, just like you always hoped he would. Why? Because they’re what make up Nan Madol, a series of tiny, real nifty artificial islands in Micronesia built around a millennium ago! How exactly were they constructed, and why? IT’S A MYSTERY. And will white people ever give other cultures credit for their engineering chops? Not if this weather-controlling lost city has anything to say about it!

Wyatt then takes one for the team (and fulfills a recent-ish promise) by finally giving an obligatory rundown on Rapa Nui. Also known as Easter Island, this bad boy’s got actually a lot of really cool and surprising history regarding its famous big ol’ heads. So stop thinking about yams and listen up!

There’s plenty of world traveling still to come, so drop on by for this hour of Pacific island Superduperstitious fun!
